So, it's only 2 days left until my lovely country celebrate its independence day. Indonesia, so far has made it to 71st and still counting. Despite all the wars inside the country or wars in disguised between Indonesia and other countries, we are independent from fear, slavery, but still however not free from corruptions. So what do we do during the celebration? This post is about to tell you, I hope my readers, mostly from US - most of my readers are from US - enjoy what I'm gonna write.
1. Decorate Classrooms, Offices, Houses and Buildings with Indonesia National Flag, "Sang Saka Merah Putih".
Well I believe not only in Indonesia, but also other countries when it comes to Independence day celebration. Usually I put some kind of used pipe on my house's garden and then set a waving flag on it. We keep the decoration for about a week usually, at some places a month.

2. Giving Independence Day Discount
The amount of discount given is usually based on the same number as the years of Indonesia's independence age. It means this year, we have to think quite complicated since they give us 71% on selected items. I don't know what if one day Indonesia hit 100 years, that means we will get a lot of free stuffs right? I think that's what the real definition of freedom and independent, to buy anything we want without paying anything. I've gotta to wait 29 years then.

There are various of competitions that are usually done during the celebration. Some of those competitions are: Tarik Tambang (Thug of War), Lomba Makan Kerupuk (Crisps Eating Contest), Balap Karung (Jumping with yourself inside a sack). Those are the commons and must-do competitions during the celebration. What do they look like? Well, ladies and gentlemen, visit Indonesia 2016. And also, the students at schools usually celebrate it by decorating their classrooms, and the teachers will look around to find which class decorated their class best. Me and my class won this competition when I was in 3rd grade and 4th grade of primary school. It was fun because there were no lessons that day. - Freedom from lessons and assignments is also a part of feeling independent, right?

This one is called "Panjat Pinang", when a group of people have to work together in order to get the gifts or whatever is hung on the top of the pole. I know what you're thinking, but no. They are not a pole dancer.

And this one is Crisp Eating Contest (Lomba Makan kerupuk). It looks easy but believe me, you're gonna struggle just to eat that one hung crisp.

4. National Flag Ceremony
If you have grown up or if you were in High School in my country, you would have to do this in August 17th morning. It takes about an hour to do this ceremony.

5. Holiday
Some lucky people are enjoying their one day off from works, schools, but it has never been me. The last time I had holiday on August 17th was, when I was in kindergarten. So literally I've never been so independent during the independence day.
